During an overwhelming time, I turned to a lifelong joy and rooted myself even deeper in my life’s purpose.
Once I recognized nothing would change anytime soon, I decided, why not now? With a lifelong passion for cooking, I had always thought of attending culinary school. So, as a full-time REALTOR® during the toughest years of the recession, I enrolled.
I found my love of cooking through my work experience at a dude ranch. Straight out of college, I was hired to work at a dude ranch for the summer. After many family vacations to various dude ranches, I thought it would be a fun experience. One summer turned into several years. I started out washing dishes, making beds, and cleaning toilets —really taking care of people. The path to management was through the kitchen. I had to become a cook first.
Even after I became manager, I kept cooking. I worked at several hospitality properties over eight years until I was 28 years old. Then, my world tipped over with the loss of my father.
My father passed away of a heart attack on Father’s Day. It was the worst day of my life. I went back to Oklahoma to settle his affairs. Within three months, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. The doctor told my mother I was not going to survive. She and my sisters disagreed. Years of treatment and a kidney transplant later, I had the opportunity to start over.
I feel so blessed to have family that advocated for me to live a healthy, normal life. Their support kept me going. By the time it was over, my whole life was different. At first, it was hard to recognize the person I had become. However, after already overcoming so much, I was determined to build a life for myself, even if it was not what I originally had in mind.
In those challenging years of my life, I learned to fight for myself. That strength grew as I built my career and discovered my objective in life. I became a licensed REALTOR® in 1997 and fully embraced that new purpose. With every person I meet and every interaction I have, I try to make a positive impact. What I want to do is leave people better than I found them.
We all live on this planet, and one could go about his or her existence here a lot of different ways. I like to play the game of figuring out how I can create a better experience for every person that I encounter. Whether that is through acknowledging someone for something people usually take for granted or taking the time to walk a classmate through a complicated baking assignment I had already finished, I want to make a positive impact in any way I can.
I attended culinary school in 2011, and even though I stopped short of a degree, I got what I wanted out of the experience. It pushed me to examine new techniques, recipes and skills. Many of my classmates from those days turned into friends I still keep in touch with today.
Everything that happens in our lives, the good and bad, is part of the human experience. Life is too short not to have fun! I still cook and bake – I make a mean loaf of bread. The reason I have been a REALTOR® all this time is because this is how I make my impact. Whenever I am not working, I enjoy cooking, doing Pilates and singing in my church choir. My favorite part of being a REALTOR® is engineering the whole process while anticipating what we will face next.
I like to sit down and chat with anyone considering buying or selling. The more I know about what is important to you, the better I can help. My number one goal is to provide value, so I will give you resources from the start, including my buyer’s or seller’s package which includes everything you need to know about buying or selling a home in Southern Colorado. While keeping the focus on you, I will put to work my decades of experience and expertise behind the scenes.
I have deep roots and strong relationships with other agents and vendors in the area, often acting as a source for my past and present clients for any needed services. Also, when you choose me as your REALTOR®, you get me. There is no phone tree, answering service, or series of assistants to handle your transaction. I will be here, communicating with you and making this process easy. Once the transaction is closed, I will still be here, continuing to be a valuable resource to you however I can as your lifelong REALTOR®.
Sincerely,
Lisa W. Robinson
